You Deserve Everything 🔮
Permission Granted to outsource your confidence as needed. For me, looking to women who publicly exude confidence can be the best way to create my own. It doesn't come easily or feel natural most of the time. And still, I try.
You know what, why not me? Why should I not love me? Why don't I deserve everything I've worked for?
To have that confidence, I find confident women. I listen to confident women. I see confident women who are out there wearing it with pride and I try on their words like an outfit. I dip my toe in to test out how it feels. I practice repeating them. I listen to them talk about self-respect and self-love. Sharing, learning, sharing, learning. It's the best we can do for each other.
Lucky us, this Summer we have a couple true confidence heroes in our midst.
First, let's give it up for Megan Rapinoe. On the Recode Decode Podcast she was asked about her mantra of "I deserve this. I want everything."
"I don’t give very many of the F words. You can fit them in a really tiny bag. And I feel like I know my worth and I know my value, or at least what I think it is. Maybe that comes in the face of never being compensated that way and always feeling like I deserve this. I’ve earned it double and triple times over. So that’s kind of where that came from. I deserve this...We deserve this. We deserve everything. We deserve this parade, we deserve all the champagne that people are giving us. We deserve all this shine. We’ve worked very hard for it.” A little bit in jest of course, but also I think to be that outspoken voice in the country right now, we’re not just thankful to be there, I’ve worked very hard to get there and feel like, “Yeah, I deserve it.” All right, why not?"
Don't just be thankful to be where you are. Be confident that you deserve it.
And then there is Lizzo (oh yes, of course you saw this one coming) who has put her process into such beautiful words. When she chose to want to live her full life, she chose to love herself. And this week on her incredible "Tiny-ass" Desk Concert:
"I want everyone to remember. If you can love me, you can love yourself. Every single day."
Not to mention her whole mood on Instagram this week.
Confidence is a practice. I train every day. It is not easy. I build the muscle of confidence in the studio when I work out (speaking of which — do not miss the announcement below). I build the muscle of confidence when I force myself to include affirmations in my private writing every morning. Yes, this is embarrassing to admit, but what am I doing here if I'm not sharing the truth. I rely on all that practice especially hard when I'm feeling down.
I hope that one day something I say truly, loudly, honestly, can inspire someone else to say those words to herself.
Whose confidence are you feeding off of these days? Send us things — DM us on Instagram, respond to this email, shout it from the rooftops (always). We're here for that inspo and think that you — yes you — deserve everything.
xo,
Molly
