Swear Yourself In ✨ 🚀
New Years resolutions stress me out. How about you? They seem to stress a lot of people out. So much so that by this time, four days into the year, many of them have already been abandoned and modified. The feelings around them have morphed into the sort of shame spiral that can make January feel heavy and dreary.
This year, I'm sharing my main intention. It's one that I cannot fail. One that won't be derailed by a misstep or a tough month. Or — inspired by the incredible, inspiring new class of congress women who took an oath yesterday — I'm taking an oath of office to myself. I'm swearing myself into another year of me.
And in this sacred and important role we each have in owning and operating these bodies and lives, we must recommit to ourselves.
The practices and habits that I experiment with this year to see whether they serve the greater good are just that — practices and experiments. Some will work and some will be too hard. Some will stick forever and others will be one-time never agains. I vow to do my very best not to hold that against myself.
So repeat after me (do this out loud if you can): I [state your name] do solemnly swear that I will honor this position as [President/CEO/Commander in Chief] of me. I will defend me, take care of me, and stay in pursuit of what makes me feel my best. I will challenge myself when I need to and not when I don't. I will try new things and embrace those things that make me me. I will practice gratitude for those who hold me up. I will take care of the communities around me. I will allow vulnerability. I will do this with courage and that is enough.
I am so lucky to get to do this with you. Remember, you're going the right way. Let's take off into 2019 together. See you soon (hopefully at our birthday weekend — details below!).
xo,
Molly
